Well, that was a strange one!!!!
So there I was, sitting in my usual position looking out at the audience, wondering what in hell was happening!
We had taken the decision a few days earlier to mike the kit, just to get a bit of balance in the mix (not that I usually need miking, as you know) and when we were miked and balancing the kit, I couldn't hear any difference, but hey, it'll be fine.
Then we soundchecked. As soon as it was over I pulled the guys and said I couldn't hear Andy or Dave! And so went the first set, really, playing by sense of smell and my aging colander of a memory. Second set got slightly better once the minor technical hitch that is Andy not knowing which hole to plug things in (insert own joke here), got fixed! Still couldn't hear Dave, though.
Still it seemed to work out in the end and as the sun went down and dusk fell o'er the gathered throng, we asked everyone to put on their sunglasses! A band with a talent for timing, or what!
Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did and a big well done to the guys for putting up with me (their kind words are much appreciated)!
Another break now until September, during which time we shall pay such diverse and strange gigs as the Hop Festival, a pub in Sandwich and ...wait for it...a SAILING CLUB IN SHEPPEY!!!! Yes, you did read that correctly there is a sailing club in Sheppey and we're playing their annual thingummy.
Mwah ha ha ha ha ha ha (pauses for breath) ha ha ha ha ha!
Have a great August, me hearties! (should I stop with the nautical thing, now?)
The Drummist.
