I was born in 1976, in Westminster, London. After a relatively normal childhood up to the age of 16, I went on holiday with my mum and some friends (I don’t remember where) and saw my first live band. The music was lame and a bit cheesy but seeing a guitar being played live for the first time I was fascinated by it. I got home and being quite poor borrowed an old steel-strung from a friend. This lasted about five minutes and I got bored... too hard! Then a close friend got a Telecaster for Christmas and this spurred me on to buy my first guitar: a black and white Strat.
My first band was a five piece with many names; after a few rows and tantrums we finally settled on Blag. We played all covers: G’n’R, The Clash, Gun, Ugly Kid Joe to name but a few. Playing freebees at local pubs and even a Scout jamboree we had a good time and never let it become a chore, but as all young bands do, we got jobs and girlfriends and went our separate ways after four happy years. I continued to play and sing on my own for a while until I finally gave it all up in 1999.
By chance in 2001 an old school friend and I got together to catch up and it turned out he was looking to start a band, I was single again and had nothing better to do so I agreed to give it a go (singing this time) and so Lynch was born. This five piece covers band played much heavier stuff than I was used to, like Metallica, Pantera, System Of A down, Drowning pool, Rage Against The Machine, Korn etc. and was a lot of fun, but one of the guitarists left and we became an originals band. We embarked on recording an epic album over a two year period in the style of our heroes, the heavier the better. This was not fun and when we had finally finished it we showcased some of the songs at gigs supporting a death metal band. It was more fun than writing the stuff, but too much bad feeling in the band meant that we couldn’t continue together.
In 2006 I joined Blaggers Belief a Classic Rock band. This genre of music seemed really to suit my voice and was good fun. I liked the feel of it all, but this only lasted four months as work commitments meant I had to leave before I really got started. I had all but given up on singing when I was contacted online by Dave saying that Hardtail needed a singer and was I interested? Well let me just say that having sung for a few bands, these guys really know their stuff and I’ve never enjoyed the music as much as I do now... long may it continue.
